hello.

Over twenty years ago, I opened rock paper scissors in my hometown of Wiscasset Maine.

Spending days as a kid on the coast of Maine with my ever-curious grandmother peering into tidal pools, I learned to look for the small moments of wonder in the world. Finding a perfectly smooth stone, oddly colored lichen, and searching for only the yellow periwinkles started my love of collecting, the search, the hunt.

I grew up in a town known for antiques. I spent many days at local flea markets and shops searching for hidden gems. It informed my eye. My collection of yellow periwinkles turned into yellow marbles then spinning tops, plumb bobs, vintage staplers, and all things broken and mended. Now my love of collecting and searching is for the shop.

objects of beauty
whimsical things with a sense of humor
a particular form that sings
design that solves a problem in the best way

These are the things that make rock paper scissors what it is -- a big ol’ mix of the seemingly unrelated, displayed in a way that highlights the magic of how these chosen objects relate to each other. You’ll find here a small selection of my ever-changing favorite things. A smattering if you will. A part of the collection.

If you’re in town, stop by and say hello.

Until then, thank you for visiting here.

– Erika

p.s. I still collect yellow periwinkles, always will.
