The Illustrator/Writer: Although known as a very prolific poet, Emily Dickinson (1820-1886) had in fact published fewer than a dozen of her eighteen hundred poems. She had spent much of her life creating small handmade books, and had left behind many drafts, letters, and poems written on makeshift and fragile pieces of paper. Poems she had written on envelopes have been gathered here. Full color facsimiles of the envelopes are accompanied by transcriptions of the text, allowing one to see what Emily Dickinson had jotted down - with crossings-out, dashes, directional fields, spaces and overlapping planes. This edition was envisioned by book artist Jen Bervin using transcriptions by Dickinson scholar Marta L. Werner.
