The Artist: Mark Hearld is endlessly inspired by the surrounding nature in his British countryside, creating exuberant, joyful and vibrant collages. Based in York, collage is central to Mark Hearld’s artistic output, not only as a medium but as a process that is firmly rooted in twentieth-century art. His work is now exhibited all over the UK, including several solo exhibitions, most notably with Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Description: This wonderful paper garland captures seven colorful pigeons in flight, designed by Mark Hearld. The pigeons are decorated on both sides so you can hang in an archway or doorframe, as well as against the wall. They come with a colorful (and long!) red and yellow twisted cotton twine. When you thread it through the pre-punched holes in the birds you can arrange them close or spread them far apart. You could also cut the twine and hang them individually around your space- one in each window!
Details: 7 die-cut pigeons and colored twine contained in a self-closing card wallet. Each pigeon measures 7.5” wide and 9.8” long.
A Note From Erika: Using paste papers and textures created on large sheets, he finds inspiration from the piles of cut and torn papers in his studio. I love Mark’s expressive mark making and imagination.
